Data Sheet
The project concerned the use of the existing railway line between Miranda do Corvo and Serpins, in an extension of 16.4 km, in Iberian gauge (1668 mm), which was adjusted to allow the circulation of a new rail system (“tram-train”) in UIC gauge (1,435 mm) with a 750V DC power system divided into 14 km of ballast track and the remainder in concrete slab track in the urban areas of Miranda do Corvo and Lousã. Eight double or triple passenger platforms with an extension of 80 were executed. The area surrounding the 8 stations was also redesigned. Maintenance of the steel bridges was undertaken, through the descaling of structural steel elements, application of anti-corrosive paint and adaptation of the support structure to the new gauge. With regard to engineering structures, the replacement of 5 bridge decks, two underpasses and several culverts in reinforced concrete. L-shaped concrete walls, reinforced concrete starter walls, both anchored and unanchored, slopes reinforced with shotcrete and anchoring, slopes stabilized by reprofiling, nets and ad hoc tiebacks were undertaken. A new transversal and longitudinal drainage system was implemented and existing slopes were reprofiled.
