The establishment of the Mechanical and Biological Treatment Centre for Urban Waste of the Gesamb, Resialentejo and AMCAL Systems in Évora was carried out in an area adjacent to the sanitary landfill, in a delimited area inside the GESAMB Complex, interconnecting with the landfill’s roads and its existing energy supply and telecommunications systems, existing water distribution and fire suppression networks, sewage and leachate systems. The Building is developed in an enclosed building with 17,372.86 m2, with three different ceiling heights. This design as an enclosed building will avoid the negative environmental impact of any odours resulting from the operating of this type of infrastructure, the air inside it being collected and treated in the biofilters before being sent to the exterior, by a specific deodorization system for this type of facility. The infrastructures (Drainage, Supply, Electricity and Telecommunications) interconnect with their respective existing networks in the GESAMB Landfill complex. Contiguous to the Composting Tunnels, a transformer substation was built exclusively dedicated to the Treatment Plant.
